April - Week 2
What a difference a week makes! On Monday we were still playing in the snow and by Friday we had our coats off and were enjoying the warm Spring sun! The civil engineer inside every student blossomed as roads, canals, lakes, dams, bridges and buildings were constructed, reworked, destroyed and rebuilt in the sand. They explored the ditch and found that some places are much deeper than others. We wondered why that might be. Some students were surprised to notice that some small vehicles will sink while some larger vehicles will float. They concluded that it was because the small trucks are made of metal and are heavier than the bigger but lighter plastic toys. In their play, KA children are explaining, predicting, investigating, teaching, helping and encouraging each other. They are learning to look, smell, touch and listen mindfully, to use their pre-frontal cortex to solve problems and make wise decisions, to think about the Zone they are in and why, and to Feed All Four by exercising, engaging in activities they enjoy, being kind to others and attempting new activities.
