February - Week 1
We began the week graphing the lost and found items in our classroom. That was a concrete graph. By sorting and then arranging items in lines beside each other, we can see very quickly what we have the most or the fewest of. We moved pictures onto a graph on the Smartboard. That was a picture graph. The SKs then made a graph by colouring in boxes on paper. That was a bar graph. On Groundhog Day we predicted whether the groundhog would see its shadow and graphed our predictions. Most people said YES because it was sunny outside, fewest people said NO because the groundhog didn't actually live in Minden, and some said I DON'T KNOW. When we checked the computer later in the day, we found out that Wiarton Willie DID see his shadow, but 2 other famous groundhogs DID NOT. So we're still wondering how long it will be until Spring! When we went outside, we looked for our shadows. We discovered that when the sun was behind the clouds, we couldn't really see our shadows. When it was a little bit out, we could see some shadows, and when it was shining brightly, our shadows were really dark - and really long!
